Splogs are blogs that are setup specifically for improving ones search engine placement. They often take the content from another blog and put it on theirs and try to get a link from the other blog by using the ping back system.
You maybe wondering what can be done about them? Well contact the provider that is hosting them, yes there are providers out there that care about splogs.
So I log into my email box this morning and I find this. Ok, I guess this blog is too good for Blogcatalog. I know mybloglog has already accepted this blog. That is fine. If anyone out there reading this knows how to get ahold of a human I will try that route, but I couldn’t find a contact option other than to contact the “webmaster”. This will be my last post about this process.
Dear (name removed),
Thank you for submitting your blog The Dead Spammers Society (http://blog.deadspammerssociety.info/) to BlogCatalog.
Unfortunately upon reviewing your blog we are unable to grant it access to the directory.
The most common reasons for not getting into Blog Catalog are:
* We could not verify ownership of your blog.
A link back, widget or meta-tag is required to verify site ownership. visit: http://www.blogcatalog.com/buttons.php for more information.
* The URL you submitted is not a blog.
* The URL you submitted is solely for commercial purposes, or is suspected to be spam.
* Your blog is brand new and/or doesn’t have enough content to make it truly valuable.
If this is the case, please resubmit after you have made more postings.
* Your blog contains pornographic material.
* At the time of review your blog was unavailable or there was a typo in your submission URL.
Please make sure the URL submitted is correct and accessible
If you believe this to be a mistake, you can login to Blog Catalog ( http://www.blogcatalog.com/blogs/manage_blog.html ) and change anything which may have caused it to get declined. After updating your blog, it will be put back into the submission queue.
If you have any questions/comments/suggestions/ideas please feel free to contact us.
I recently signed up attempted to add this blog to BlogCatalog. After hitting submit their message said that my blog would be reviewed and pending approval my blog would be added to their listing. So I waited and less than 24 hours after submission I get this:

So looking over this blog I am left scratching my head and saying “WHAT??”. Did they even look at the blog or did they just rejected it based on the domain and the title, or do they really think that talking about the spam problem is really just supporting spam, or being solely commercial.
I have received several emails asking me how how to find the hosting provider for a domain. This is really simple once you have the Internet Protocal (IP) Address. The easiest way to find out the owner of the IP address is to use the American Registry for Internet Numbers. Using the example domain of spamsuite.com, if you will remember from How Do I Find The IP Address of a Domain? it had the IP address of 66.211.39.18 go to Arin.net.
Arin will tell you that the 66.211.39.18 is owned by:
It’s that simple. If you have any questions please ask.
I have received several emails asking me how how to find the Internet Protocol (IP) address of a website. Since I believe that the readers of this post are likely looking to learn how to find the IP address of a website will be windows users I will describe that process. There are two common ways of doing this.
First way:
1. Click on Start -> Run
2. Type “cmd” or “command”
Type “nslookup spamsuite.com”
The results are:
C:\>nslookup spamsuite.com
Server: ns1.nameserver.com
Address: 192.168.1.1
I will be starting on Wednesdays, posting funny or stupid complaint commentary. this will only be the wording sent along with the complaint and not the actual spam. Nor will it include the complaint’s information.
So in reading my normal blogs. I came across a post about someone that is having similar experiences that I am. Back in 1999 I signed up for classmates.com. Well Laura talks about another blogger that is having trouble getting unsubscribed. I recently put their sending IPs from even reaching my MTA. I tried and tried several times to get them to remove me from their list which was never done. Thought I was the only one having the problems.
Update 2008-06-25: I have now blocked all their sending IPs as it appears that I missed some.
Admin1: good god.. it only took sorbs a month to remove a listing..
Admin2: I like their speedy service
Admin2: that’s why I choose sorbs for all of my blocking needs!
